The Braun SK5, also as known as “Vertical Snow White’s Coffin”, is the second generation of SK Phonosuper series, designed by Hans Gugelot and Dieter Rams in 1958, two years after the first generation SK4. With the Phonosuper, the German electrical appliance company Braun showed their new minimalist approach to design. The SK5 is also a combination of a record player, a radio and an amplifier in one device.

While maintaining SK4 appearance, the SK5 was designed to be placed vertically, achieving space-saving and compactness. Changes in the record player PC 3 SV, four turns instead of three turns, also laid out for stereo. It is the most elegant model of all series and an important design in the history of consumer electronics in the 50s and 60s. Its timeless design and ‘to leave out’ minimalist aesthetic influenced the entire phono industry and many later designs.

Condition:
Some signs of wear consistent with age and use. 

It has been tuned to Japanese specifications with great effort and care while making sure to preserve all original parts and the record player, radio and amplifier are in good working order.

「Vertical Snow White’s Coffin（縦型・白雪姫の棺）」の愛称でも知られる《Braun SK5》は、1958年にハンス・ググロットとディーター・ラムスによってデザインされた、SK Phonosuperシリーズの第2世代モデル。初代SK4から2年を経て登場した本機は、ドイツの家電メーカーBraunが打ち出した新たなミニマリズムのアプローチを象徴するプロダクトです。

SK5は、レコードプレーヤー、ラジオ、アンプを一体化させたオールインワンの設計。初代SK4の外観を継承しつつ、縦置きで使用できるようにデザインされ、省スペース性とコンパクトさを追求しています。また、レコードプレーヤー部にはPC 3 SVが採用され、3速から4速へ改良されたうえ、ステレオ再生にも対応しています。このシリーズの中でも最も洗練されたモデルとされており、1950～60年代の家庭用電子機器史において重要な位置を占めるデザインです。無駄を削ぎ落とす「引き算の美学」は、その後のフォノ業界全体、さらには多くの後続プロダクトに大きな影響を与えました。
